Meet Dona
Dona Kay Renegar received two simultaneous Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and French from the University of Louisiana – Lafayette in 1988, graduating magna cum laude in both areas. Over and above that, Dona was awarded Most Outstanding Graduate in the Fall of 1988. After studying at Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana, Dona received her Juris Doctor law degree in 1992. Her legal career began when she was admitted to practice before the Louisiana Bar in October 1992.
Working at Legal Service Corporation of Central Louisiana in Alexandria, Dona served as a Domestic Abuse Assistance Attorney which provided litigation practice in the field of family law, specializing in the representation of victims of domestic abuse. This provided a solid base for assisting in legal representation defending family law areas. Dona also served as an attorney practicing family law, domestic litigation, and general litigation for Acadiana Legal Service Corporation and Jeansonne and Remondet in Lafayette, Louisiana.
In early 2006, Dona began her tenure as an attorney practicing insurance defense litigation focusing on Louisiana worker’s compensation and general casualty work. She is currently an AV-rated Attorney and a named partner with Veazey, Felder & Renegar in Lafayette, LA. Dona worked diligently in practice areas that included: general casualty work, insurance defense. and family law. She also worked in additional areas of insurance coverage disputes, government contracts, complex litigation, environmental contamination, commercial litigation, and personal injury.
Dona is an active participant in Lafayette Bar Association CLE presentations and programming. She has made numerous presentations including: “Practical Pointers: Litigating a Comp Claim from Start to Finish”, “LSBA: Who We Are and How We Serve Our Members”, and “Good Guys Win” are just a few of her highlighted presentations. Dona Kay Renegar is also an extremely active member of the community. She is a long-time volunteer and presenter for their Parents And the Law (PALS) program and the John M. Duhe American Inn of Court. Additionally, she is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and the Lafayette Bar Association. Dona has served in many capacities within these organizations including the Board of Directors, Board of Governors, several Officer positions, and chair of several important committees and subcommittees.
Dona Renegar has strived to make a difference for her state, her region, and her community. Dona was named Outstanding Young Lawyer in 1999, received the President’s Award from the Louisiana State Bar Association in 2009, and the LSBA Pro Bono Century Award in 2013. She has worked tirelessly throughout her career, always putting her clients’ best interests at the forefront of all she does. She was also President of the Louisiana State Bar Association from 2017 to 2018
